The original site, on a stretch of towpath that used to be a boatyard. A birch-fired cabin, two plunge barrels and a sheltered terrace, all of it looking at the river.

Sessions run hourly from seven in the morning. Twelve people at a time, which is about half what the room could hold and exactly what makes it worth coming back to.

Included in every session

  • A full hour in the cabin and the barrels
  • Changing rooms, lockers and hot showers
  • Cold water, herbal tea and a place to sit afterwards
  • A guide on your first visit if you want one

  • Drink before you come

An hour of heat takes more out of you than it feels like.

  • Arrive ten minutes early

Sessions start on the hour and we cannot hold the room.

  • Shower first

House rule, and it makes the heat land better.

  • The cold is optional

Plenty of people never get in the barrel.

The area

Riverside Walk runs behind the old wharf buildings, five minutes from London Bridge and completely quiet after seven.

There is a decent coffee place two doors down that opens at six, and a pub at the end of the towpath that will let you sit outside with wet hair.

Asked about this site

Is there parking at Riverside?

No — the towpath has no vehicle access. The nearest car park is Vinegar Yard, about eight minutes away on foot.

Can I come on my own?

Most people do. Sessions are shared, so you will be in the cabin with up to eleven others.

Are the barrels heated in winter?

The opposite — they are chilled year round and sit at 6°C. In February they get there on their own.

I went for the sauna and stayed for the ten minutes afterwards where nobody talks to you. It is the only hour in the week I do not check my phone.

First time in a cold plunge and I lasted about nine seconds. The person on the desk had clearly seen it a thousand times and just said "that counts".

Seven in the morning, in January, with the river steaming. Worth the early alarm on its own.

Weekday mornings you can usually walk up. Everything else is worth booking.
